    Newly redesigned office space in Chicago Well known brand They are loyal to their employees Fairly decent salaries Great benefits package, including telecommute opportunities and one of the most amazing fertility and adoption benefits I've ever seen

    MHE is a sinking ship; they cannot find a space in the market that fits the current customer They use outdated marketing and archaic business models Senior Leadership is awful -- little to no communication with the folks actually doing the work. Zero transparency about how bad of a financial position they are in. Merger is a hail mary at best Employees are forced to hold multiple roles, stretching everyone way... too thin -- this fosters an environment and culture of cutthroat, not collaboration.

    Find a way to grow a culture and fast. Your employees will jump ship without it. Replace all senior and executive management with leaders in tech and other industries that don't feel like they are dinosaurs on their way to extinction. A mass exodus of top leaders who have been leading the way they did 10-15 years ago would be a good first step. Also -- bring humanity and authenticity back to the McGraw Hill name.

    -depending on your manager, work-life balance can be unbelievably good. -niche market, niche position in niche market, niche product in niche position in niche market. If schools weren't so systematic and tough to change, there would already be a replacement for this company.

    Minpunten

    -no growth, as in no one even mentions the possibility of upward movement. Not once in 2+ years. -a strong majority of employees are on the ladder half of their careers. No morale since they just want to keep their jobs until retirement. -Software integration/migration is extremely tough because, as I mentioned, there is an alarming lack of youth. Millenials, think about how annoyed you get at your parents... when they ask simple questions about iPhone functions. It's that, but everyday. And, instead of iPhone, it's questions about the printer and changing colors on cells on Excel. -Salesforce is the CRM norm. Not just within the industry, just with any company that requires CRM software. This company has spent the past 3 years never getting passed the testing phase for it. -Also an alarming lack of diversity. Mind you, this is an extremely conservative/wonder-bread type organization. -Owned by private equity firm. Making leadership a bunch of empty suits.

    Stop rewarding people who have been at the company for lengthy periods of time. It's not loyalty, it's a complete lack of outside experiences to contribute. There are people who have been with the company for 25+ years. They've literally never had to think in any new/innovative way.

    hard to hit your sales goals. Have to sell to both the professor and the bookstore and convince both to go with your product. Neither will want to, they want to go used. Professors want cheaper for students, bookstore makes much better margins on used.
