The current development environment at the company is really awful and in desperate need of fixing. It's easy to get the feeling the CTO is an entrepreneur who wants to make money being from being in Tech, but doesn't actually value the technical side of the product at all. He shows very little interest in talking about the tech side of things, and is very dismissive if you try to suggest following industry standards. He needed a lot of convincing before finally admitting the company needs change but was very reluctant to allocate the necessary time to fixing these problems. When I joined this company was using Git as deployment software and not version control. This means they weren't doing Pull Requests and Code Review etc properly. This structure was missing from the company entirely. The vast majority of the developers at the company are juniors. With no code review, and only juniors writing code, the current code base is very poorly written. They develop against a live server and not a mock API, or a local version of the API. The front end code base is written in Vue 2, and heavily loaded with plugins incompatible with Vue 3. Vue 2 support expires this year (2023), which means this company will soon need to completely re-write their monolith front end. There is currently no CI/CD deployment pipeline, and no automated testing. So the only protection against merging in breaking changes is a junior QA.
