I would strongly advise against working at Signal Group DC if you are a woman or a minority (especially if you fall into both categories). Take a look at the company website as 95% of employees are caucasian with only three minorities listed (one female hired a month ago one male hired 3 months ago after the company asked me if they should hire more minorities which was very odd) I was made to work, nights, weekend, through lunch daily and even while ill. This company can be abusive, with upper management often yelling and making certain people feel very uncomfortable (in many ways). As someone who has worked at big name companies for over a decade and has experience with many types of environments, I would not consider this to be a healthy environment. Signal does pay employees less than city and national average (unless you are an EVP in which case you're probably a white male and will be just fine). This is also very much a DC boys club with inappropriate office chatter, I have sat in all male meetings and been silenced or ignored completely as if I wasn't in the room which was shocking given how woman have been speaking up lately that they would still do this. Many of the positive reviews seen on Glassdoor were written by upper management to offset the negative review as was mentioned in a staff meeting given that there was concern about so many negative reviews. This is not a good practice and I think it's important to note the negative aspects of a position before signing a contract. The employee benefits are terrible, limiting you to a handful of not so great doctors and dental costs are barely covered. The managing director is very disruptive and so you will have to drop everything to work for him while being expected to still deliver on your original workload. If you don't do it all in a timely manner, you will be out of his good graces and your days will be miserable or numbered. Also, very important, but you will have to work with many unsavory clients. If you have a strict moral compass I would advise against taking this job because it could be very conflicting. This is not feel good work and some of the client work is very dark reputation management work that isn't for everyone especially at the compensation level (again doesn't apply to EVP level here) I never experienced such an awful environment in all of my years of working, there are so many great agencies in DC to go to, please consider you sanity and work life balance before joining any team at Signal. None of my formal complaints were taken seriously and there were many about several executives which makes it clear that this behavior is allowed.
