The employer created a negative experience. I was initially attracted by a €150 sign-up bonus advertised by Deliveroo, but this payment was never received. It became apparent that such incentives are tied to the regulatory complexities of the platform economy: riders are required to operate under self-employed status, which allows the company to offer flexibility while avoiding standard employment protections such as insurance and benefits. However, obtaining and later terminating this legal status entails personal costs, which the rider must bear. In my case, the onboarding process was delayed just long enough to make me ineligible for the promised bonus, effectively shifting the financial burden onto me.
