One of the best parts about working at CARITAS was the participants in the shelter and my coworkers in the shelter side of things, they taught me a lot not only about the homeless population but also about myself.

Administration does not care for the shelter like they do for the recovery program. That's evident in day-to-day operations. More often than not I would watch a higher up walk through the program side of the building and acknowledge the participants in the recovery program but never say a word to the shelter program. The Healing Place is constantly given better treatment- for example: the food the shelter gets is more often than not the scraps, the donations are not evenly distributed even when they were specifically bought for the shelter, the bathroom the shelter uses is rarely fully operational, and the people in administration pretend to care when they really don't. They just want that salary (oh and the pay could put some of the employees into the shelter.)
