I hoped to be able to practice my data analysis and critical thinking skills at Fedex. This internship did not allow me to do so. I will say that my manager did what he could to expose me to as much of the company as possible. I toured the operations at the hub, shadowed sort managers, shadowed engineers, sat in on meetings with higher ups, etc. This internship started at the CPC office which is essentially a customer service call center. I spent the first half of my summer sitting in a cubicle, going to regional zoom meetings that had no application to what was going on in my office, shadowing the CPC employees, and making 1 slide safety messages for weekly intern meetings. I wasn't given access to the programs that allowed me to help out with the calls until halfway through the summer. Once finally gaining access they gave the interns a project for their region. The project was making cold calls to double-check pick-up times, and then replacing data if it was bad. It was not challenging in any way. By this point, I had requested my manager transfer me to the linehaul depart (which deals with the movement of their semi trucks). The only way this was possible was to change my shift from 9am-5pm to 3pm - 11pm and my location to a more remote hub. I was okay with that because I thought the work would be more challenging and help me become more logistically skilled. I then spent the rest of the summer tasked with entering data for when trucks arrived at the hub. Yeah it might look good to have a company like FedEx on your resume but it is more valuable to do an internship somewhere else that allows you to test what you've learned in school.
