This “job” has done nothing but taught me to be in constant fight or flight. Where do I even begin…let’s probably start with the fact that the recruiters and everything they tell you at a career fair is a lie. The recruiters do such a great job of selling you the idea that “you can make a lot of money at such a young age” when really they’re only referring to the top 1% that realistically work 50-60 hours a week. The most recent LinkedIn post promoting the AE role at this place reads that can in your first year you can “earn up to 90K” and I actually laughed out loud when I read that. Most first-year agents probably make around 45-55K their first year and this is all depending on your state’s market, sales. Etc. it’s not sustainable and I think the base salary being the same for everyone is bogus. When you initially sign on, you recieve a $10,000 sign on bonus which then turns into around $6400 post taxes, and you receive the first half after you pass the insurance exam, and then the rest after you pass training. This is their way of improving their turnover and locking you in for a year of hell. If you quit within a year you owe the full amount even though you didn’t receive it in full..like what? Oh they also don’t even request it back from every employee who voluntary quits within a year, they pick and choose, and even decide the amount they want from each agent! No work life balance, people hook up with each other, vaping in the office, being shunned for leaving at a reasonable hour (I worked 8-5), responsible for driving all across your region to go on cold visits to offices and ask strangers for referrals, soliciting current clients of GH and leave a voicemail saying “this is regarding your current policy” and when they call you back you’re trying to cross-sell them other lines of insurance…. Meeting monthly visit plans, constantly sponsoring events with sometimes no reward, tracking call times, while being expected to produce 12-15K a month, and when you’re not producing well or having a good month, being excluded from YOUR OWN MANAGER AND NOT BEING INCLUDED IN LUNCHES FOR NOT PRODUCING. They disguise this as an “incentive” when in reality the people that run this Winnie hut jr are ppl so desperate to hold power and feel like they’re in college again. Oh! They also keep employees at the company after they’ve made harassing, sometimes sexual comments towards younger employees. They’d rather “not go through all the trouble of training someone to replace them” and would rather quiet the victims…pathetic. Honorable mention to the higher ups and managing directors who don’t even know how to report something to HR. When you start selling, everyone is granted a TX license, including those who work out of state who already have the privilege of being able to sell in their own state. Most TX agents only have one license and if you don’t mention anything in the interview/onboarding process about wanting to licensed somewhere else, you’re screwed. They’ll grant new licenses to newer agents over someone who’s been there longer as they love to practice the “out with the old, in the with new” mentality. I personally worked in DFW and it is has been ran through with Goosehead since there’s no one left to prospect because they either already have a Goosehead rep or they just hate the company. It’s so funny because every week when we all meet as an office we either talk about a new change that’s occurring company wide or they just harp on something that worked so well for ONE. SINGULAR. PERSON. They run with it, they think if this works for someone (9/10 times it’s luck) then it will work for everyone. I think what’s hurting this company the most are the constant changes that happen weekly if not daily. Changes to the point where it’s impossible to keep up with and if anyone says anything or challenges the intention of these changes, you will be fired. I think they’re afraid of the agents that actually know what’s right and wrong and will do anything they can to shut them up and after leaving, I can guarantee you that there will never be a place as unprofessional as this one. Your work matters, your efforts matter, what you’ve accomplished even if you only made 45K matters, and there are sales jobs and other companies that will appreciate you and recognize the hard work you put in. I believe that this company takes advantage and preys on young, motivated college graduates that have their entire career in front of them. Stay as far away as you can and the last person who asked me, “was this all worth it?” I proceeded to tell them no and will forever tell them NO.
