Good medical insurance. That's about it.

Minpunten

They say you can't truly enjoy the light until you've experienced the darkest darkness. If you work at Hi-Line, you'll quickly realize that your next job can only be better! High Turnover – Turnover of recruiting staff and Territory Managers is ridiculously high. While Hi-Line states they are in a “growth mode”, in reality they are simply chasing their tail. As soon as two Territory Managers are hired, two quit. Poor Management – The CEO has a tendency to intimidate employees with his bullying nature. My manager lacked managerial experience and had a tendency to take out his poor mood on employees. One particular member of management makes inappropriate comments on a regular basis. Upper management is very aware of the problem and are said to have addressed it yet the behavior continues. It’s a wonder the company hasn’t been sued for harassment, discrimination or hostile work environment. Questionable Hiring Practices – If a candidate ever caught wind of what goes on behind the scenes during the decision making process, Hi-Line would more than likely be in court. Managers don’t want to hire candidates for the Territory Manager position who are too old, too young, too fat, too wealthy, too poor, too single or God forbid, too female. The hiring process for Territory Managers is very invasive. For example, managers have been known to use Google Earth to see what a candidate’s home looks like. Candidates are asked to divulge financial information such as IRA, 401(k) and savings account balances as well as salary information for their spouse. Candidates are rejected for the most ridiculous of reasons and the reasons vary on which way the wind is blowing and which sales manager is doing the hiring. Poor Benefits – With the exception of the medical plan, Hi-Line has poor benefits. Dental and vision plans are discount plans, not true insurance plans. I received a greater discount when I provided my AAA membership number to my Optometrist. Employees can’t participate in the 401(k) plan for a year. Match is minimal ($500). My manager felt Hi-Line offered rich benefits but considering he has never been employed anywhere else (other than bartending), I’m not sure he knows what rich benefits are. Cheap – The recruiting staff are required to use their personal computer for work purposes. I suppose when you churn through employees at such a fast pace it minimizes the risk of a disgruntled employee, and there are many of them, destroying or refusing to return company property. Most of the employees I worked with, myself included, had to purchase a new computer which was a personal expense of well over $600. The cost of ink/toner for staff working from home isn’t reimbursed to the employee. The company has a $35/day meal per diem when traveling which is significantly lower than the national average of $59. It just seems cheap and petty when you have knowledge of how much money the company spends in other areas of the business. Clearly my overall opinion of Hi-Line is a poor one but I would like to end my review by expressing my overwhelming disappointment with my manager. In the end, he failed me completely and that will always leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. I know he will read this and I know he will know exactly who wrote it. I was always upfront, professional and transparent with him and in the end, he couldn’t provide me with the same courtesy. He fed me a BS line about why we had to part ways instead of just coming clean. Pathetic.

This is Jack. First, let me say thank you for your kind words regarding our health insurance. It is awesome! At first, that seemed like a nice start. Then I read more of your disgruntled, negative post and realize a Fact Check is imminent in this situation. Each year since the latest recession of 2009 Hi-Line has seen growth. So yes, that is considered 'growth mode'. We do and will continue to promote that in a proud manner. No one is being 'bullied' as you implied. That is complete balderdash and you and I both know it. Also, some managers, such as myself, had little managerial experience at this company when being promoted into their current roles. Hi-Line is big on promoting from within. Isn't that what all companies desire? We love to promote folks that have been employed and successful within our company for many years. That exemplifies a company that offers room for advancement. You make that sound like a bad thing in which it is not. Hi-Line does have a lengthy on-boarding process because we want to hire the brightest and best. There is nothing wrong or discriminatory about our process. You say slandering remarks about things you know nothing about. There is no 'hostile work environment' like you state in your post which is completely different than what you were saying while employed here. Hi-Line's Territory Manager opportunity is a similar model to a franchise opportunity so financial statement pages and cash flow analysis sheets are common practice. We do this to ensure the success of a new Territory Manager. We believe it is very important to be transparent regarding the expectations of their first year so everyone knows what to expect financially if sales objectives are met by the Territory Manager. We want to make sure we are setting all Territory Managers up for success. Hi-Line's benefits are super competitive. Medical insurance starts 30 days after employment which is better than industry standards of 90 days. You state one can't contribute into their 401k plan until 1 year. That is also false. Everyone can contribute to their 401k plan immediately upon their start date. You also say matching is small. $500 may be small to you but when you factor in Hi-Line's employee tenure it can add up to some serious money down the road. Another fact about 401k matching is 42% of all small businesses in the USA do not match at all. 23% of those companies can't afford a matching program, so I think that says something about Hi-Line's stability and genuine desire to care for all employees. To my knowledge, no one has ever 'destroyed or refused to return company property' once leaving Hi-Line. I am not even sure where these statements are coming from. These are all truly unfortunate, slandering remarks you are placing in your posts to vent frustration. I am starting to understand how it could be difficult to recruit for Hi-Line's TM position with so many wrong, outrageous statements that you are now casting upon Hi-Line. To finish, no one failed you. Only you truly know why you were not successful as a Corporate Recruiter for Hi-Line. You were given many tools to help contribute to your success, yet for whatever reason(s), were unable to deliver results.

Pluspunten

I gained real experience running a full sales territory from the ground up — prospecting, cold calling, follow-ups, and customer service. The role taught me strong habits around discipline, time management, and accountability since it’s completely commission-based. I liked the independence of managing my own route and building genuine relationships with business owners in different industries. Hi-Line provides solid training, product support, and a clear structure for growing a territory if you put in the work. Every day felt different, and I learned how to create value through service and reliability, not just price.

Minpunten

The 100% commission structure can be tough early on. Income takes time to build and depends heavily on customer retention. The workload can be demanding, especially when managing inventory, service, and full sales cycles. It’s not ideal if you’re looking for a guaranteed income or a predictable schedule, especially in the first year.
