Raises are tiny. Most importantly, I never felt that - even for a second - the quality of my performance had any bearing on my raise. That was the biggest factor in my eventual departure. The raises for junior-level staff were ultimately decided by people who had no direct visibility into my work, and I saw no signs that they recognized it.
