Focused on form over substance Senior management is a "country club" where they opt to get along rather than challenge each other. Managers are manipulative and dishonest when it comes to perfomance reviews and developement. Many will simply "outsource" responsibility to executive coaches rather than taking responsibility for their own employees. It is also common for managers ask employees to participate in leadership development programs without any intention of actually moving them into leadership positions, God forbid you show any interest in career advancement...one of the tenents of the compnay is that the indivdual owns their career... however if you speak with your manager/others you're branded as "running for office". Loyalty and dedication are expected from employees, but is not reciprocated by management. Promotions are not based on merit, but on patronage to others in the organization who are not your immediate manager and who have little/occasional insight into what you do. Many managers "problems" are well documented via Annual Employee Surveys, but year after year nothing is done to hold them accountable for delivering on the employee values the proports to embrace. Oddly enough, they are in fact rewarded.
