Pluspunten
Easy classes and you get to live by the beach. If you like the beach and you want to relax then this is an easy job. The apartment was decent compared to the salary, working conditions and other apartments in other countries. There are no expectations they don’t really take this job seriously so you can basically do whatever you want in the classroom because management does not care. All they care about is keeping the kids and parents happy to keep making money.
Minpunten
Maldives is quite conservative. The men will stare at you if your shoulders are exposed or hair is down or if you’re wearing shorts or a skirt. There’s no alcohol unless you go to another island and it’s very expensive. All the groceries are expensive because it’s imported. The salary is low so by the time you spend on groceries and bills you don’t have a lot to save. There isn’t anything to do on the island if you don’t like the beach. The management is bad. They don’t care about teachers, they only care about the paying parents. If the students misbehave they don’t really discipline them. They don’t support teachers and they come deliver worksheets to your apartment after hours or on weekends. It is unprofessional. They also are unsupportive with misbehaving students so they won’t take the teachers side. They will try to blame the teacher if the don’t like you. No room for growth, no benefit for students other than giving them worksheets to keep busy.
