Pluspunten

What's left of the engineering staff is awesome. Extremely talented and passionate individuals and teams that care about their products. A year ago I would have recommended MapQuest without question.

Minpunten

MapQuest has been in a state of constant flux since the beginning of 2017, you can view the glassdoor trends and see a major decline in ratings around that time. With Verizon bringing MapQuest under their own company and completely altering our benefits, vacation, promotions, and roadmaps (all arguably for the worse), a lot of people have been unhappy with the change and questionable about the company's future. More recently however, leadership has rolled out sweeping layoffs that target a large number of engineering staff without any discussion or recommendation from management. This adds even more to the uneasiness felt within the company, and in my opinion is creating a lot of distrust between engineering and leadership. In a nutshell: Unpredictable leadership making questionable decisions. Benefits under Verizon aren't really competitive in metro Denver area. Culture has changed, regardless what some might say. There's uneasiness in the office now. Denver office is extremely cramped for space, although that might change with the amount of layoffs about to happen. If you're a software engineer and looking at MapQuest, you're probably looking in the metro Denver area. There are numerous software companies in the area with benefits much better than you'll find here, and with leadership that doesn't seem to re-org the company every quarter. I would have whole-heartedly recommended MapQuest a year ago. Today, I can't do it. MapQuest seems like it's falling apart, and I wouldn't recommend anyone I know to be there when it does.

Pluspunten

All the people actually care and work hard for a common goal. There is no judgment on what you wear or how you look, people respect you for the work you do here. Unlimited snacks, beer, and drinks are definitely a plus. The location is great (center of downtown Denver). I've worked full time and contracted for several companies in Denver and actually did a 6 month contract in the past with MapQuest. When I decided to go back to full time I had several options (Denver is very tech heavy now and a lot of jobs), overall I loved working at MapQuest and chose them. I am very happy with my decision. My hiring process was very quick compared to others (less than a week to get an offer). All the managers and PMs here are also very nice and actually a pleasure to talk to.

Minpunten

Sometimes it's hard to see the forecast of the work down the road and company's direction but you can tell management is trying to get better at it. Not to much else to complain about honestly, there's issues here or there but every job will have those and compared to others MapQuest is definitely one of the better ones.
