Pluspunten
Work was interesting and I had the chance to learn a lot. Vast majority of individuals I worked with were excellent. I felt like my contributions had impact. Able to work remote during pandemic, however this employer has established history of forcing employees to cease remote work or lose their job.
Minpunten
Relationship between leadership and the rest of the organization had felt needlessly combative for years prior to my departure. Extremely high turnover, long unaddressed. Brutal on-call expectations due to under-staffing, myself and others were frequently pressured to not take days off or punished for doing so. Disparate support for middle management, resulting in high turnover. Organization was some how both consistently chaotic and overburdened by process. It's sort of impressive how backwards things got over the years. Punitive leveling and review process, similar to Amazon's stack-ranking and aggressive attrition goals. Review process also highly disruptive. It occurs twice a year and takes 2-3 months of time. Bizarre commitment to frugality in all the wrong places. For example, one piece of software was both a critical reporting tool used for all company metrics and declared "too expensive," resulting in leadership restricting access to it. The same insiders got called on again and again to fail in new ways, while super talented and less sycophantic people were driven out. Unionization attempt revealed the worst in leadership, it was embarrassing.
