The students are usually pretty sweet. The other coaches and front desk staff were friendly and were the only real positive.
Minpunten
Everyone there is underpaid. The coaches are given a probationary pay that's supposed to be readdressed after three months, but it never is. When you bring it up, the owner gives all kinds of excuses as to why she won't pay you a rate that's more representative of your value. In fact, it seemed as if she was constantly fleecing her employees; one example would be that in emergency situations, coaches would sometimes have to coach two students during the same hour slot, despite the promise to both us and the parents that this would never happen. The kicker is that we wouldn't be paid for these two sessions; we'd still get the single hourly rate, even though those sessions were significantly more work. We're expected to do write-ups for every session we have, but we aren't actually paid for that time. The equipment provided is a joke; we're expected to use online resources for our sessions, but we have only one working computer while there are on average four sessions going on at any one time, and that one computer is run down and often also does not work. We were always scrounging for dry erase pens and other writing utensils. Many coaches resorted to bringing in their own that they purchased with their own money. Many of us brought this up several times over the course of the year, especially the lack of computer resources. Every time we were told that we would be getting new resources "soon", but it never happened. The uniform expectations are unreasonable. Many of us worked five days a week and were expected to wear the work-assigned shirt every day, but were only provided one shirt. Again, every time we asked about this we were told we would receive new ones "soon", but a year later and the shirts have still not been provided. The owner herself rarely made herself present at the business, and really the whole thing seemed to be a "turn-key business" to her, which ran contrary to the image she presented of a dedicated, hardworking educator. We were paid late several times due to calendar issues, and the owner simply refuses to get direct deposit. Overall, it was a fairly negative experience. The other coaches and the front desk staff made it tolerable, but never would I work there again.
