Reactie van Philmont Scout Ranch
3yWe are very sorry to read this review about the experience you had at Philmont. All instances of harassment/discrimination reported to the Seasonal Personnel Office are taken seriously, investigated, and responded with appropriate action and retaliation in any form is not tolerated. Staff who experience any of these things, are asked to promptly report the situation to the Seasonal Personnel Office, Philmont administration, the Boy Scouts of America's National Office, or the anonymous reporting system through EthicsPoint (information on this is provided in the Seasonal Staff Handbook). If this was your experience, we would like to know more so that we can look further into it. Women and people of all walks of life should be welcome and supported at Philmont and anyone who disagrees with this is not welcome.
We aim to create an environment that welcomes constructive feedback and are always working to improve the facilities and resources available to our staff through surveys, closing reports, and regular meetings with seasonal staff to prioritize areas of focus for future seasons. We are a camp and the environment of remote camp life is not for everyone. We try our best to set these expectations with all applicants through the interview process, staff handbook, preparedness seminars, and other resources.
Our mission as an organization is to develop young leaders. This includes our seasonal staff. We place a lot of trust in our seasonal staff to gain experience through making decisions and leading their departments, however sometimes these seasonal leaders make mistakes or lose sight of our mission to change lives. We, as full-time management, take action to coach these seasonal leaders as they learn their roles. If ultimately it is decided their skills or mindset does not match our mission, we will make personnel changes for future seasons.
