The kids are the only good part

When working for the company I was treated horribly. As a Stem instructor I was promised to be given all the supplies asked for within budget and was encouraged to ask for help when needed. Well I was constantly missing supplies almost every day, which often took days to resolve and led to several sessions with little I could do. I was told to just make something up on the spot or give the kids worksheets instead......which is supposed to encourage kids to explore STEM how? When given no support or help I contacted ASM to help resolve the issue. This helped a little bit but I was then interrogated by PE saying I should resolve things internally because I could damage PE's image and prevent them from being a part of ASM again. I would have quit, but I stuck it out because I knew the kids in my program might needed the money given from ASM for personal reasons and I didn't want to jeopardize that by ending the program. The PE staff also seemed to have no clue about the livelihood of minority kids in STEM; on one occasion during a class session one of the PE staff members wore a fancy tight white dress to our session, which generally called for summer camp attire; she also forced one of my students to take his hood off even though it was not a policy I or the location we were in enforced. I was 19 when I took this job, so it was likely PE did not take that into account when they hired me based on the treatment I received. I cried several times outside of work and had very poor mental health while taking this job. I also spoke with several other instructors in the Chicago area who had the same experience with PE. Do not take this job- they do not care about you.
