Pluspunten

The hype is real - Amazing people supporting and building great products with a no-bullshit customer centric approach - no vaporware in sight. Not everyone is obsessed with drones and dirt (and that’s fine), but working on solving such big challenges with such talented people makes it a pleasure to go to work every day. People enjoy working with and for each other and so the feeling of teamwork is real, there’s very little ‘that’s not my job’ mentality. The amount of transparency is very, very good. Regular updates to the entire company about in-depth financial health and metrics, burn rate, big misses, learnings with no spin. “We got this wrong,, this is why, this is what we learned, and this is what we’re going to do going forward”. It’s cool tech! Drones, heavy equipment, 3d maps (now on mobile!), lidar, machine learning and manufacturing our own hardware devices. It’s fun to work on and it solves actual problems for our customers. They trust, and then rely on our solutions to make significant operational and financial decisions, which is extremely rewarding. Every time Propeller needs evolution from Rory, he finds a way to climb to that next level as a founder and leader, and where he falls short in an area, he finds high-quality people to fill those gaps. It’s been truly impressive watching his growth over the better part of a decade and makes me extremely confident in Propeller’s ability to navigate whatever challenges are thrown its way. Extremely accessible CEO to the entire business and 100% cares about his people. Similar vein to the above - there is a rock solid desire to improve in every area of the business. Propeller has much to learn and is far from perfect, but any time an issue or problem comes up, it is acknowledged, it gets the deep dive treatment and steps are made to improve it. Doesn’t solve everything, but the effort and care is evident. It’s a really fun place.

Minpunten

If you’re looking for an easy gig, apply elsewhere. What Propeller is trying to do is really, really difficult, and the standards set and the workload often reflect that. The flexible work arrangements and Australian workplace culture (celebrate wins, build real friendships with your colleagues, enjoy and take your PTO, etc) help provide a balance but you will work very hard and it will be a rollercoaster of success and failure.. Hopefully that’s your thing. The office split is real - Propeller now has big teams in Sydney, Denver, Manila & Europe, it’s tricky keeping 200 people all pointing in the same direction across multiple time zones. Common issue for growing, global companies and one that the leaders are aware of. You might read about compensation in the other reviews, there is some truth to that. Propeller pays fair and competitive salaries, and you absolutely can make good money here. However, if you’re looking for 95th-percentile tech wages you’ll likely be disappointed. Multiple employees that have left for ‘better offers’ have returned within a couple of years.

Pluspunten

The people at Propeller, especially on the frontline teams, are what make it worth showing up every day. Colleagues are hardworking, supportive, and passionate about what they do. Frontline managers go above and beyond despite little recognition from senior leadership. It’s a good entry-level spot if you’re looking to get your foot in the door, but if you’re serious about building meaningful SaaS experience, you’ll likely want to look elsewhere.

Minpunten

Compensation is far below market, especially given the demands of the role. The company enforces aggressive targets without offering bonus structures. Leadership seems either disengaged or focused on the wrong priorities. Systems are a mess—salespeople are asked to duplicate work across HubSpot, Gainsight, and endless spreadsheets that wastes time and kills productivity. There’s a clear gap in SaaS experience at the top, and it shows.
