The severance process was handled poorly and caused unnecessary harm. After more than a decade with the organization, I was given a severance agreement requiring me to certify that I had no other agreements with the company, despite having been onboarded into an equity initiative under the previous CEO in 2023. When I couldn't sign a document that would have forfeited my equity, which was substantially more than the 13 weeks of severance offered, my severance was revoked. Leadership then offered multiple conflicting explanations about the equity program, ranging from denying it existed to claiming it would have had no value since the company had not sold. When I asked for clarification, I was told the company would no longer discuss the matter and that I needed to speak with their attorney. That left me no choice but to hire my own attorney, at significant personal cost, simply to get answers. Even after I provided my equity paperwork and email correspondence showing vesting schedules, the company's attorney stated they were unsure how I had obtained the paperwork, and that while an equity program had been discussed in 2023, it had never moved forward. Leadership turnover has been constant, with the C-suite effectively replaced three times in four years. This instability has affected communication, decision making, and follow-through. The company has taken on significantly more technical and operational responsibility, but staffing has not kept pace. I presented clear analytics through BI reports showing a substantial increase in workload over two straight years, yet those findings were not acted upon. Requests for critical headcount were repeatedly declined, even as teams took on new environments and employees were out on medical leave. The gap between stated values and actual practice has widened over time. The organization presents itself as mission-driven and focused on serving nonprofits, but repeated ownership changes and an increasing emphasis on short-term financial outcomes have created a growing disconnect between the mission and the day-to-day reality.
