Pluspunten

Amazing people who truly love and believe in the work that they do. A great first job for a career in international education. Good work/life balance. Tell them what you need, and they will help you achieve that time or schedule.

Minpunten

ExecVP is a micromanager to the point where very little can get done. The smallest details down to choice of copier paper, font type or book selection have to go through her. She has excellent insight, but creates a huge bottleneck that can delay projects for a long time, sometimes years. 2014/2015 was not a great financial year for Rennert. The company had a small layoff in 2015, but the cascading departure of a large number of the staff (many who have been here for years) really decimated the company, and left it a husk of its former operating capacity. Wages are very low, especially for young women. Great place to work, but Rennert is unable to pay livable wages at low levels. Most haven't had raises in many years. CEO is nice but very out of touch with staff and day to day workings of the company. Worked there many years, and he never really knew anyone's name outside of executive staff.

Pluspunten

Excellent directors and congenial co-workers. You are equipped with two computers and everything else you need to do your job well. The greatest advantage is that you learn a lot, and the new skills can help you succeed at your next job. Another advantage is that you have a good deal of autonomy. No one stands over you and tells you exactly how to go about each task. In my case, in fact, my supervisor's office was in a different building and she came around only occasionally. You have decent health insurance, professional development opportunities, and you can take language courses free. There are two big parties a year and a few breakfasts and cocktail events. It's a very human place to work. I was treated well there and am still friends with some of the people I worked with.

Minpunten

The two biggest cons are the pay scale and the workload. It's a small company with below average salaries. You are responsible for doing your job well, and that often means putting in many more hours per week than you are actually paid for. (You may get a bonus at the end of the year, however.) If you are not willing to work hard, sometimes very hard, you shouldn't accept a job at Rennert. People do get fired there, and once you have received a warning, you will be severely scrutinized.
