Hiring manager decided before any investigation that I didn't know what I was doing. I was an internal candidate, so it wasn't a traditional interview. The funny thing was: They more I offered and spoke, the more open he was. He said with surprise - this was better than I thought it was going to be. (referencing my portfolio) Then it was: I'm surprised, you speak so eloquently about design. The last critique was a comment that I didn't have anything recent in my portfolio (I had been working in an adjacent field for 2 years and so this break was accounted for.) He assumed that I could not create something modern. Unfortunately the position was closed due to reorganization before I could dispel this notion. This manager had a very negative starting point.
