From her role as a resident of Mildred Hailey Apartments to co-founding Mothers for Action, Julia's journey began with a passion for better living conditions and creating youth programs. Her diverse career, from a home health aide to a private investigator, was fueled by a deep-seated desire to uplift those around her. 🤝🏾💚 Julia's volunteerism during a funding crisis at a halfway house for young people showcased her selfless dedication. This commitment led to the creation of the Julia Martin House in 2006, providing 56 affordable apartments for seniors. His efforts in the late ‘60s to protest the construction of a parking garage in favor of affordable housing led to the iconic “Tent City” demonstration. This movement showcased the power of community activism and laid the groundwork for developing Tent City Apartments, embodying King’s vision of community-driven development. King’s political career, including his historic mayoral run, further cemented his legacy as a trailblazer for civil rights and community empowerment.
