- Remuneration is low considering what you have to bring to the table as a developer nowadays. With the lost IP ruling not being compensated, you effectively lose net income on top of that. - Toxic working environment. The atmosphere is increasingly tense. Statements and claims are inconsistent with behaviour and this is the case at every hierarchical level. - Many slogans about employee centricity and how we are a family. In practice, however, they're meaningless. Billability is omnipotent. Talk to colleagues waiting for an assignment (on the bench) and you will learn that as a consultant, you are just a number, generating revenue for the majority who don't - Top-down management and micromanagement at every hierarchical level. You have to ask permission for insignificant things, but as soon as things get slightly difficult and you actually need their support, they all run and hide. Clearly, expectations placed on consultants are significantly higher than those placed on managerial and support staff. - Lack of career prospects. Often quoted: "You are at the helm of your own career". That's difficult in a company that has lost their customer's trust and goodwill. - Severe lack of learning and training opportunities. Continuous learning is claimed as being very important, as long as you do it on your own private time and at your own expense. Outside that context, the importance rapidly fades. - No ethical consciousness. Things are granted dependending on the person asking for it. They don't even bother hiding it. Knowledge, skills and commitment are secondary to who you know or how you are perceived. Needless to explain that the biggest sweet talkers are the best captains of their careers. This has apparently been the mindset for a long time and now, they are reaping the fruits of it.
