    Pluspunten

    The company is a unique mix of research laboratory and production - a great place to be if you want to experience the challenges of a hardware startup firsthand. Because workers tend to be involved in multiple projects or roles, it's also a good place for those who like to multitask or diversify. The team is small so you can stand out if you perform well.

    The technology has great potential to affect change which makes it appealing to put in the work, although any real benefits are a long way away. Hours and benefits are not bad, and the location is very nice.

    The major downfall of this company is that there is no clear direction from the executive level. Politics and in-fighting among the managers are rampant and beyond some lofty "we can change to world" rhetoric, there is no clear business plan for the long term - and if there is it is not communicated to the staff. The CEO is absentee most of the time and seems to make major decisions off the cuff without clear understanding of the implications.

    Time and again management declares seemingly arbitrary and unreasonable deadlines for project completion which the team fails to meet. There is no negotiation or program planning to determine a reasonable time-frame and engineering is forced to scramble to post-rationalize a plan for a set deadline. This happens so often that the concept of "deadline" is virtually meaningless to the staff.

    The company continues to hire experts and specialists to address very specific issues, but many of the long-term employees are either stretched too thin or not given enough to do. There is no promotion from within. There is no mentoring or career development offered.

    Overall the focus seems to be in the wrong place. They are scrambling to turn a profit on a technology that is still in its infancy and sacrificing resources that could be used to strengthen the technology to focus on short-sighted plans for volume production that are completely unsustainable. A hardware startup is not a get rich quick scheme. Meanwhile, the core technology team has made no discernible advancements in understanding of the science, but performance is expected to improve.

    Come up with a business plan that the executive level actually agrees on, communicate it to the staff, and stick to it. Internally, the company has very little faith in management's ability to make decisions and the product's potential to be successful because of it.

    Make requirements clearly defined and stick to them. In order to set expectations, the stakeholders need to be able to agree on the scope of a project before deadlines and budgets are set.

    Work on offering mentoring and career development. Put managers or team leaders in place that are knowledgeable about their employee's field so that they can offer meaningful guidance. The company will lose people who do not feel challenged.

    Working on technology that has never been done is pretty exciting. There are a lot of smart people working here and I get to work on a lot of different things.

    Minpunten

    While we have some smart people here, they don't really understand how it works. We waste a lot of time working on hunches and ideas that don't work. Management puts a lot of pressure on us and it seems like they don't know what they are doing.

    They need to turn the ship around, they are spending a lot of time and dollars and not making much progress. I think that its time for me to look for another job. Good luck Tribo.

    Flexible hours, learning environment, small amount of employees, ability to work with a brand new technology, snacks in the break room, massage therapist visits on-site, car wash and dry cleaners services available, ability to work with some very smart people, sick days/vacation days.

    Minpunten

    You'll wear many hats (juggle many jobs that may not necessarily be in your job scope), some employees have unnecessary aggressive attitudes, very little promotion from within, employee retention is low, very little recognition for work done, bathroom is overcrowded due to new hiring campaign, parking is limited due to hiring campaign as well.

    Retain talent, listen to employees, understand that making employees work overtime isn't always a solution. If you are going to grow as a company make a plan to accompany the additional employees in the parking lot, bathroom, etc...

    Listen to employees instead of delegating tasks. Attend meetings on time, stay organized, provide encouragement and motivation toemployees. Everyone is miserable and looking for a better opportunity.

    This company started out in pretty good shape: interesting technology, niche markets to exploit and a good potential path forward. The CEO is a consummate businessman with a solid understanding of star- up companies, dealing with VC’s as well as possessing a high emotional intelligence. The fundamental problem is that this technology is rooted in materials, hardware and system engineering. This is not a core strength for the CEO and he must rely heavily on the Chief Science Officer (CSO).

    Minpunten

    The CSO is fresh out of school and his attempts to exploit this technology is sophomoric a best. He has a poor understanding of the fundamentals of triboelectricity and is ineffective at characterizing let alone optimizing this technology. His lack of experience coupled with his domineering personality has led the company down multiple, fruitless paths over the years. He would have been released years ago, except he is also a co-founder of the company. I suspect that Tribogenics will run out of cash before becoming profitable. Cool technology, poor technical guidance.

    This is a technology company and needs to managed with that in mind. The CSO does not have the skill sets to define the technical objectives or steps needed to produce a product.

    Pluspunten

    A start up that will offer great experience and challenges very quickly. The only company who is trying to disrupt the X-Ray industry.

    If you're comfortable working independently and able to solve challenging problems without much hand holding, you will fit right in. Dale and the management team are very accessible and are willing to listen to your ideas and seriously consider them if you back it up with data.

    A casual work environment with doughnut Friday's and lunches catered regularly. Good work life balance.

    You have to do more with less because it's a start up. There's a lot of company structure being developed so at times, you have to figure it out yourself.

    Continue to hire smart people who are willing to wear multiple hats to get the job done.

    Invest in team events that will help promote a positive work environment.

    Communicate changes quickly as they happen and ensure that everyone is on the same page.
