False promises, Lacking management and High workload
Pluspunten
An incredibly corporate company with japanese ideals. The good parts: You do not need to know Dutch to get hired. So it is a good place to practice if you are learning the language. They try to hire a diverse team from all over the world and most colleagues are very nice. Pay is okay, mostly thanks to the meal allowance and opportunities for paid time of to volunteer If you hate sitting still there is always something for you to do There are opportunities to get promoted and climb higher in the company if you'd like. But it depends on if your managers like you.
Minpunten
Now the Negatives Uniqlo Rotterdam (At least when I started working there spring 2025) advertised a higher number salary but you get paid less than what the ad says, They trick you by adding the cost of the meal allowance to your hourly wage on the job ad so do not be fooled. You are also NOT able to pick being allowed paid out holiday allowance monthly as advertised despite them saying "All-in package". These points were brought up with them and were blatantly ignored so they're actively and fully aware that they are tricking people with false promises. Most likely due to the high turnover. There is no "Structured training" whatsoever. You have to tell management that you need training. If you work 16 or 20 hours a week you're very easily forgotten about The supposed "trip to Japan" is just a trip to a Uniqlo conference. Managers and certain Supervisors/colleagues can be rude and not very empathetic. Some colleagues nitpick and give unsolicited feedback and managers will give odd looks if you ask questions sometimes. You sometimes get blame for something that is the managements fault. You will be looked down upon if you make mistakes or don't remember certain things.. The introduction days are 2 days of 8 hour powerpoint presentations about how Uniglo wants to become the number one fast fashion brand. They expect you to remember hours of endless info. Insanely high workload every day. You can take up to 8-10k steps a day Your feet will probably hurt. The only time you can sit down is on your break which you are not allowed to pick yourself. Every colleague I spoke to had pain in their feet. There is a huge lack of info for anything remotely important. You have to ask your colleagues and pester management with questions. I never got told how I was supposed to get promoted or how to do it for example. Managers will try to push you to use sales tactics and promote store competitions to bother the customers with, you get almost seemingly nothing for doing this extra work. Lack of working equipment to use sometimes which impedes on your work, despite this, you're still expected to find items quick in a sometimes very messy stockroom.
