      The job security is also bad. They can let you go without any reason. So be prepared. No mentoring, all learn by yourself. Working in AST is pretty stressful. You typically work 50-60 hours per week to handle a lot of work. The company was signed many contracts before the pandemic, but the development/implementation speed is pretty slow, so that customers will complain to you about the delays. The Berkeley office is pretty small, which can have at most 40 people. In addition, most of the employees are remote, in the USA and east Europe.

      Very good work‑life balance, the company is flexible and always goes out of its way to accommodate you if you need time off or have personal issues. There is almost no “pressure cooker” environment and no constant pressure on deadlines, The company is actively trying to adopt AI and provides LLM subscriptions for employees. They also encourage and motivate people to grow professionally and develop new skills.

      Minpunten

      A lot of ancient legacy, in some projects there is a huge, slow monolith that eats a lot of your computer’s RAM. Agile rituals very long and can feel like a time‑suck rather than something truly useful. Sometimes tought communication between teams.
