Picture being in Year 10, where the "cool kids" are the management, and only a select few are allowed to join their circle. That’s essentially the environment. Promotions go to people with no relevant skills for the new role, leading to managers who lack the ability to manage effectively. Unrealistic targets are set, and if you present evidence to challenge them, you’re labeled a troublemaker. You might even be told to change your attitude, despite maintaining professionalism all along. They’ll put you on fabricated performance improvement plans if they don’t like you, inventing reasons to justify it. This has happened to multiple people. It’s a cult-like culture where they constantly talk about how incredible they and the product are—while simultaneously damaging your mental health. If they approach you with a job offer, don’t just walk away—run. You might think, “Surely it can’t be that bad. Maybe the person writing this is just bitter.” Normally, I’d say, “Go ahead and see for yourself,” but I wouldn’t want that on my conscience. If you’re unsure, try reaching out to former employees for their honest opinion. That said, many may hesitate to speak openly, fearing legal action—another testament to the culture within this organization.

It used to be a good company who made a premium product, with smart coworkers, interesting tasks that involved a lot of math problems, with detailed code reviews. It still has generous PTO, sick days and a discounted lunch (in Raleigh office).

Minpunten

Management changed and there is an ongoing optimisation with hidden layoffs / force quits with no severance. Biased performance reviews with high expectations. Frequent goal changes and useless projects that will eventually be terminated and the whole team will be shuffled or dismissed. Complete delivery mess. Left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Knowledge transfer sucks. The only way to understand the feature is to dig into the code (bad for newbies). New unqualified and arrogant low-level managers and team-leads, hide their uselessness on endless meetings, blah-blah-blahing with no real impact just to add visibility. A lot of stress, 5 days from office in an open space with no remote option even for new parents. The base is low with no stocks. Pro-Russian company, previously based in Moscow, relocated the whole office to the US and Europe due to sanctions during Russian-Ukrainian war (they recently laid-off a few Ukrainian guys).
