Pluspunten

The employee stock ownership program that they talk up sounds good. The warehouse field trip was also fun and educational.

Minpunten

Their IT department had no direction. They had a falling out with a software vendor who then refused to sell them any updates so they decided to replace their inventory system with Dynamics and contracted a company in Colorado to develop it. Then, inexplicably, they hired local .NET developers to basically sit on their hands. Lots of meetings where nothing was accomplished because A) no direction and B) no tools to work with. I was bored stupid. Yet when a blizzard shut down the city for two days and even a Republican governor was telling people to stay home, they expected perfect attendance. Unfortunately, D&H is also one of those companies were a slight change in the wind for even an instant panics them into layoffs. If October Lenovo sales drop by $5, they fire the Lenovo salespeople, only to scramble to hire when sales go back up in November. For all of the talk of a "family" atmosphere, there's no effort made to keep people busy during lulls. Just out the door with you and they fight all unemployment claims because they've earned a poor reputation and higher tax rate.

Pluspunten

D&H is a consistently successful, unique, creative, growing ESOP company with a positive, collaborative culture. It's a very stable and strongly rooted company in the distribution world, yet nimble with a keen eye for identifying trending markets to maneuver through and pivot with efficiency.

Minpunten

In support of executing larger projects, there are occasional/temporary needs for weekend and/or off hours work to meet target dates. I find this to be normal across other companies where I've worked, and in the end, it fosters a sense of team accomplishment.

Market average starting pay and benefits. Decent work/life balance if you don't mind never getting promoted.

Minpunten

Toxic work culture. People are promoted based on their willingness to have no life outside of the company. If you want any kind of career advancement, you have to volunteer for weekend activities and stay late in the office even if there's no work to be done. People are not rewarded for just doing their job and working hard within a 40 hour work week. Nobody gets a raise based on solely performance. You can only make more money if you get promoted. And as previously mentioned, you're not getting promoted unless you devote your entire life to the company. Management will simultaneously brag about how much net profits are increasing every quarter and then tell you that there just isn't any money in the budget for raises this year. The ESOP is a joke unless you get promoted. There is no guaranteed total amount you're owed. Management decides how much goes in your ESOP and it will be peanuts unless they like you.
