DevFacto does not deliver superior work. It is pretty standard, with nothing setting it apart from what competitors can and do deliver. Down to the nuts of it, there aren't much differences in how DevFacto delivers and supports as opposed to other firms. DevFacto falls short in following through on doing what they say. Employee enablement simply does not happen. Micromanagement is the norm down to the project level, going beyond accountability and entering the realm of employee CYOA. There is no ability for career development here. Employees are hired for a specific role and are not given opportunity to expand beyond it. Any new roles or positions generated at the company are sourced with outside hires. Current employees have little chance of being able to move to a senior or management position, or to make lateral movements into other roles. DevFacto does a great job of selling a company office atmosphere attempting to rival leading tech companies but fails to mention you will more than likely not experience it, being farmed out to client sites again and again. Then you will more than likely begin to sense the different statuses held by employees of DevFacto. Those people operating in the Edmonton office have a full, rich experience, while those people relegated to client sites or even just the satellite offices of Calgary and Regina are second class. If you happen to be an employee of particular merit, with higher than average skills in one area or another, you can expect to be sent to clients more, and expect to be 'asked' to overextend yourself again and again beyond a 40 hour work week. Also of important note under culture is a pervasive sexist, mysoginist, homophobic attitude that is not just accepted, but encouraged company wide right up to the Chiefs. There are constant jokes being made about women or homosexual behaviour. There are employees who persistently swear, make derogatory comments, slurs, and other unprofessional behaviours. Favouritism sees these employees go without reprimand. Pay is average. Profit sharing program is rigged and arbitrary. There is no pension or RRSP matching program in place. And major company events, such as the summer trip or the Vegas trip, never happen anymore.
