1) Dreadful leadership at management levels 2) Too many management buzzwords are used to try and “solve” problems, instead of addressing them 3) High pressure role with only limited accommodation to your own personal situation 4) Very KPI orientated, and the KPI’s will change with little to no notice 5) Chronically short staffed, due to the high pressure environment, toxic management culture and the high turnover of staff due to this 6) Prepare to be “multiskilled” within a very short time, whether you want to be or not. You will have much more work put upon you, for no extra money, and if you bring it up, you will get a shrug of the shoulders, and be told “that’s just what the job is now for you all” 7) Blatant attempts made by management to “monitor and manage” (spy and berate) people for such petty things as toilet breaks and sickness 8) Management’s attitude to mental health appointments is that they “not life or death”, and you will be expected to take them in your own time 9) Forget about having a work/life balance. Holiday days are first come first served, and if there is no availability, you will have to badger someone to try and get it approved. It doesn’t matter if you have booked something nearly a year in advance, if they don’t approve it, it’s tough luck 10) Promotion is only given to young attractive people, and the importance is put on looking good, rather than being competent 11) Management is only available when something goes spectacularly wrong 12) If you are too good at your “core role”, you will never see advancement opportunities, as you are too valuable in the core role 13) You are not allowed to hang up or put a customer on hold, to sort out anything personal. You are expected to remain on the phone for as long it takes. Even the loss of personal dignity is not considered a good enough reason to do so 14) You will not get any wellbeing time or meetings with your team, if the abandonment rates (ABR%) or call queue predictions are too high. A team meeting can be pulled out of the schedule at a moment’s notice with no reason 15) Management will not sanction one on one meetings with you and your leader, unless you are not performing to their standard.
