Pluspunten
You get to work with some very talented colleagues who legitimately care about education.
Minpunten
A direct quote from several members of the executive team: we are a software company, not an education company. There is little else to say. The only thing that matters to those in charge is whether software is shipped out the door. Education experience doesn't matter, research experience doesn't matter, product knowledge doesn't matter, product efficacy doesn't matter, assessment accuracy doesn't matter. All that matters is whether there is a slick looking product to put in front of children, and meanwhile the company can sit back and coast on the basis of efficacy studies that are several years old and out of date. All you have to do is look at who survived the most recent round of layoffs. Education experts? Gone. Generic data scientists and software engineers with zero education knowledge? Promoted and celebrated. I am ecstatic that I found a new job prior to the acquisition and cuts in staff.
