I was contractor for Capital university for their network administrator position. But that only last one month but one of the worst case scenarios happened. Where due to the universities financial mismanagement they had decided to cut their entire IT department including me to hang out in limbo and hand it over to an MSP called Dynamic Campus. The claims were that it was more damaging to tell a department ahead of time because people would leave but that happened anyway and people were let go. They brought other people in from other universities with a virtual meeting during the start of the hand over making it appear we would not be cut or hurt in anyway with this hand over which just makes it more insulting to what happened. The hand over to the MSP was a mess and horribly done, I was only spared because the MSP needed a network technician which is a step down from an administrator and a big pay cut. I had to either accept this offer from the MSP or I was out of a job only a month after getting this position so I had to take it. They had forced my hand or I would have been out of a job only after a month. To make matters worse even before this situation, I found very old equipment being used for the network that needed to be updated to more modern standards but the university did not have the money to proper fund the IT department to phase out this old equipment in a timely fashion and the take over of the MSP made no difference in this fact. The previous network admin was with the university for over 40 years before he “retired” because of very questionable means had almost documented nothing and told next to nothing to anyone in the IT department so it was a nightmare figuring out what was going on with the network and having to document things correctly. Nor did anyone the entire time have that person document things. Poor management across the MSP and university. From what was previously explained management above the IT department screwed everyone over and the IT management was not much better on a day to day basis. Not understanding IT and the fundamentals needed to have a department that was suppose to be smoothly and what is truly needed. The new employees that I had to work with were not pleasant to work with and micro managed everything when something went wrong or any issues of any kind appeared.
