I’m not the kind of person to do this but I feel it’s important for people to understand what they will be walking into when joining this company. Before I start, know that every bad review you see here is 100% true. LOOK FOR THE COMMONALITIES IN THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. HE is incentivizing employees to post good reviews to combat the bad as they are obsessing over Glassdoor reviews. Don’t fall for it. This place is terrible and it will chew you up and spit you out. 1. There are no room for mistakes at Hotel Engine. You are only as good as what you did yesterday. The work you put in last week, last month, etc means NOTHING. The minute you do one thing they deem unsatisfactory, you’re out. This is a burn and churn factory, everyone is replaceable. They won’t even have a conversation with you about improvement - the first move is to let you go. I have seen this repeatedly. You will be blindsided. The number one reason for attrition here is from firing. There is no moving departments and finding something that aligns with your skill set. In the interview, ask about attrition rates and listen to them squirm. Also ask what’s the longest tenured employee on the team and listen closely. There are none. Loyalty is not a thing here, you will be discarded as soon as it it convenient for them. The casual talk of firing people amongst management is alarming as if it brings them joy. Every time, it’s the person “wasn’t a good fit for the business.” The truth is you will spend long hours working overtime just so that you can live to see another day. You will receive Slack messages on weekends and evenings. Goodbye work/life balance. 2. To follow up to my previous point, Hotel Engine does not believe in coaching nor learning & development. They want you to come in the door producing but can’t seem to get the compensation package right to find the “top talent” they’re seeking. You walk in and have to figure it out. If you can’t, well… see point 1. Do not come here seeking to be coached or trained. You are expected to be an expert from day one. Once here, they discard you and start looking for the next best thing. It’s always so funny how they don’t believe in current employees’ abilities although they are the ones responsible for getting them up to par. Laughable. The only process Hotel Engine has fully mastered is off-boarding because they constantly fire. They are masters at letting people go and do so with zero remorse. 3. MANAGEMENT SUCKS. The amount of nepotism and bias I’ve witnessed is sickening. They cut corners and bend rules depending on who you know. Good luck getting far if you’re not in with the who’s who. If you dare to speak to any concern around your ability or position, know that you will be fired. See a theme here? YOU.WILL.BE.FIRED. Managers are confused and incompetent. HE knows this and has silently made plans to discard them in the months to come. Ironically enough, they fail to realize the reason is because there is zero support here. You’re on an island of figure it out yourself or be tossed aside. Also, absolutely no one will champion for you. No one will be in your corner. Prepare to go at it alone. 4. Diversity and inclusion is non existent. There is zero focus on making this an equitable hiring environment. As a person of color, I would wait with bated breath anytime a new coworker was announced- only for it to end up being yet another white person. The discomfort I’ve endured while being the only person of my demographic in the ENTIRE department is unfathomable. If you’re a person of color - please go where you are valued. This company runs by its own rules, rules that don’t take into account people like you and me. This is the worst kind of work environment for a POC. 5. This company is super stressful. Goodbye peace of mind, hello anxiety. I spent many days anxious - constantly waiting on the other shoe to drop. Watching people be fired and never coached or given the benefit of the doubt. This is a theme no matter the department or role. It is actually scary how much this company fires people. I keep bringing up firing because that is what Hotel Engine does best. I need you to understand that. I really did not enjoy my time at this company. I would read other Glassdoor reviews and feel so hopeless that SO many of us were having the same experience across different departments yet nothing is being done to fix it. I have never seen a company that casually fires people the way Hotel Engine does. It is insane. It is egregious. It is disgusting. Run, please. This company will need a huge overhaul before it is fit to join. No matter what lies they sell you, it’s all just that - a lie. It just isn’t worth the instability and discomfort. Hold out and find something better. We are living in unstable times so it’s important to make the right career decisions. Go to a company that will invest in you and value you. Hotel Engine will hire you, over work you and hire your replacement right under your nose. You may even train them before you’re abruptly fired. Very shady. There is no long term success to be found here.
