Pluspunten
Great start to your career--you can make what you want out of this job. You can be proactive in gaining knowledge as much as you want. You also do work with some really smart and talented people. The environment is very laid back/flexible--ability to work from home when needed, free food, casual office wear, dinner for staying late, free trips to annual Client Summit in Vegas. At one time (when the money was flowing), raises/promotions were high for the industry (which is probably why you have some lifers/people that have been there for 10+ years), but that has changed.
Minpunten
The company has really fallen from grace. There has always been a lack of management leadership--30 year old's who ran up the ranks with no other career experience and massive favoritism. This company breeds the culture of promotion-hungry and entitled employees. The culture, albeit laid-back, is sometimes unbelievably unprofessional and immature. The senior management in the last year, however, is shocking. No communication, massive lay-offs, overworked staff, and ignored talent. Depending on your client, there can be lots of after-hours work support including weekends with no monetary compensation for these efforts. In fact, the salaries are no longer competitive with other jobs out in the field, despite the longer hours you work. Jobs have been outsourced to Costa Rica, leaving existing staff in a position to train teammates virtually and pick up extra work. The company also did not honor bonuses for people who voluntarily left before pay out, even though they worked the entire year. Overall, horrible way to run a business and a blatant disregard to put employees needs first. Business 101: happy employees, good reputation=growing business. Also, the technology is complete garbage--the existing application (they are investing all their money on a new product) is always down and there is constant limits to capabilities that you will not find in other ESPs. We always sold our value model on customer service since our technology was so bad. Now that they laid off half the employees and are stretching thin existing ones, that model is flawed.
