Among many of the issues within Gaiam, the most obvious is how all of VP's are friends of the CEO and/or founder. The people making crucial business decisions are from the Catalog era during a time when Gaiam is trying to move into becoming a true e-commerce business. As a result, I don't see Gaiam making the necessary strides to compete with Lululemon, Prana, Athleta and the like. These people are outdated and out of touch, however they will remain in their powerful and high paying positions until a new CEO takes place and nepotism ceases to exist. The other major issue with Gaiam is the lack of internal communication. The company has almost no communication within its various divisions and therefore fosters an environment of "me first, company second" attitude. There are 2-3 major layoffs per year which occur like clockwork. These layoffs causes people to become more concerned about their personal performance rather than the overall performance of the company. Lastly, I would say that there is almost no "career" opportunities within Gaiam. This is once again due to the nepotism within upper level management. Certain people/positions will never be vacant as these people have personal relationships with the CEO while other positions have been a revolving door due to their lack of a personal relationship. I would not recommend Gaiam.

Executive management is very committed to the success of the Gaiam brand and product. They are dedicated workers, not paper pushers, not shying away from long hours nor the demands of creating consumer product. The corporate mission is to create and sell product that meets the financial requirements of the board of directors. That is not an easy task, yet the owners have worked at this for 20 years and not given up. That shows determination and dedication. During those 20 years many people have enjoyed the opportunity of employment thru Gaiam and the leadership. I commend this.

None. When did people start to believe that "Work = Happiness"? When actually "Work = Money" and "Happiness = What you do with your life". People stop fooling yourselves about the difference between work and happiness and life will become happy. Find happiness in things that should make you happy like: family, recreation, entertainment and your own personal areas of enjoyment like: reading, travel or sports. Go to work to earn money so you can enjoy the things in life that make you happy. Work in itself will not make you happy. Snap out of it! Gaiam is a corporation, not a vihara. There are only 4 ways to earn money, work for it, marry it, inherit it or steal it. I vote for working, the other 3 options ruin the human spirit.
