At first glance, it seems like you're an employee of Genoa Healthcare possibly working in one of their pharmacies across the US. However, what most applicants don't know is that Genoa is owned by Optum which is owned by United Healthcare Group and has to abide by their rules and employee guidelines. What makes me sad is that Genoa has a great history and mission. It was started by one man as a way to help his brother who was struggling with mental health issues. It's got a great caring story that many of its employees can connect with especially serving patients in the behavioral health space. Optum and UHG ruin this uniqueness. Their rules make it hard to deliver customized care by valuing profits over people. And they make it harder to work together as a team by turning a blind eye to workplace bullying and harassment, even when you bring it to management's attention. I know times are tough right now. But be very careful about working here. You will have a lot of bureaucratic policies to follow that are more in the interest of the company's major stakeholders than your patients.

I got along great with my pharmacist, and we were a well oiled machine quickly because of it. Being the only technician meant I wasn't cleaning up anyone else's mess, and I had a lot of say in how the pharmacy ran. I loved my regulars dearly. We dispensed for a suboxone clinic, and 99% of those patients were incredibly nice. I loved being able to offer patients the option to have their copays billed to them, especially working with so many low income folks who might not have their copay the day they needed to pick up their meds. Fulfilling to provide for a community with high homeless rates and low average income.

Minpunten

Being so small was nice in some ways, but really detrimental in others. No backup for a sick day, since I was the only technician. During a time when there was no permanent pharmacist, upper management stepped in, micromanaged everything and was very condescending in what almost felt like an abusive way. I poured everything I had into the job and was made to feel like it was my fault we weren't hitting our goals. Upper management only saw numbers, not people.
