Pluspunten
You will meet the most sincere coworkers, only people with the best intentions join the organisation (because of some cons later discussed). The work both domestically and internationally are meaningful. You can very easily burn out or become jaded in refugee resettlement work at the wrong organisation, but the IRC uses its funds responsibly, and everyone works above and beyond in service of others. Internationally, their emergency response teams are impressive, and the programs are innovative.
Minpunten
The pay is low (but understandably because the majority of resources go directly back to refugee services), and you feel pressured to work overtime off the books or skip taking advantage of (already meager) vacation days. It also seems like the organisation tends to hire executives that don't really have experience or motivation to see what it's like "on the ground". The disconnect between lofty/obtuse management and the realities of working with limited resources was often frustrating.
