Pluspunten

There are a number of issues, many of which probably relate to the fact that the company grew through mergers and acquisitions up until a few years ago and was largely managed by those who used to work "in the field" (ie. preschool teachers...not your best businesspeople). The company is trying hard though, and change appears to be on the horizon. Generally for the better, though there are growing pains. Basically, it's not always fun, but for a current employee such as myself I really wonder if the grass would be any greener at any other large corporation and the people are nice so overall it's not a bad place to work (and sometimes a good one).

Minpunten

The disconnectedness between departments/silo effect.

Pluspunten

One of the benefits (at least used to be) is a discount on child care at one of their centers. So that can be a plus if there is a good center in your area and you have children.

Minpunten

This is an extremely political environment and definitely dog-eat-dog world. Even if you don't play politics, it will be hard to stay clear because the political players cannot conceive of anyone not playing their game. If you are with them, that's great while they need you. If you aren't with them (or you are not playing), be prepared to be a constant target. Management practices can vary from those that follow some semblance of normalcy, to those who will do anything they please including withholding bonuses, bad reviews (however unsubstantiated), critical rebuffs when you don't agree with them, to outright insulting and critical comments to your face with a dozen witnesses. This is true among the upper management, as well. Most employees won't speak up because they want to keep their jobs, so don't count on any support from the sidelines. Just keep your head down, try not to be noticed, smile when you can, and get out as soon as possible. Bottom line, if you love politically charged environments where your accomplishments don't count for nearly as much as your backstabbing style, this is a great place to hone your skills. If you don't thrive in a viciously political environment, -- don't bother applying. If you do need the money right now, take the job but keep looking.
