Minpunten

Do NOT work here. If I could give negative stars I would. This company has no direction, no one knows what they're doing, and people are leaving left and right. I was at Liberty for a little over three years and in that time I had 6 managers, only one of which was actually competent. Senior leadership is in complete denial that the coding direction they are attempting to take is working - they have been doing mass lay offs and reorgs since I started, eliminating ENTIRE job titles at a time. During these lay offs they have been pushing this thing called "GoForCode" which is a program designed to make close to all IT employees code. Great in theory, but executed terribly. They sent too many people to these boot camps and have no where for the newbie coders to go. There are people that still don't have placements after 6 months of their code school ending. I even asked my senior director about why so many people were sent to code school if they didn't need all the developers and the answer was "the boss likes big round numbers." This is coming from SENIOR leadership. I can't. The work is also dry and slow. Most people work from home regularly and nothing gets done. You live on skype calls and everything is catered to the east coast time zone, so if you're on the west coast looking to work here I hope you like 6 AM meetings and working sessions scheduled throughout lunch. Benefits are also bad, considering it's an insurance company. Medical plans get worse and worse each year with less and less coverage (ex - when I first started I was allotted 12 free visits to the chiropractor each year, now they're $40 a visit with no freebies). No orca card for Seattle employees and they just took away the free tea. Coffee and water only. At least you can add ice to your water if you feel fancy. Oh and the Seattle office is switching to "desk hoteling," so be ready to lug the entire contents of your cube in and out of a locker each day you go into the office. 5 stars on work/life balance because it is completely possible to not work at all and have no one notice.

Pluspunten

Liberty Mutual genuinely lives its people-first values. I have real work-life balance and feel trusted and supported by both leadership and my peers. The culture is inclusive - I can bring my full, authentic self to work every day, and the Employee Resource Groups create true community and belonging. The growth opportunities are endless: between internal mobility, Short-Term Assignments (STAs), mentorship programs, and cross-functional projects, I've been able to build new skills and visibility across the enterprise well beyond my core role. The company invests in your development and genuinely wants to see you succeed.

Minpunten

With so many opportunities, committees, and ERGs to get involved in, it's easy to take on too much. Being intentional about where you focus your time is key to protecting that great work-life balance. It's a large enterprise, so it can take time to learn how to navigate all the resources and pathways available. More centralized visibility into open STAs and mobility opportunities would make them even easier to pursue.
