Career growth can feel almost impossible unless you are willing to wait endlessly, navigate internal politics, or benefit from timing that has nothing to do with merit. Some promotions appear to happen not because someone is exceptional, but because they have been sitting in the same role for so long that the company eventually has to move them. It is a deeply discouraging environment for anyone who believes performance should matter.
