Pluspunten
If you do crafts or make art, the discounts are nice. Most customers are a blast to chat with and if you enjoy arts/crafts, it can be so much fun giving product advice to others who are equally passionate as you.
Minpunten
Every shift there is something new to rush around trying to fix or do (usually last minute, too). Constantly behind in duties and barely meeting deadlines primarily due to poor staffing (3 people per shift at such a large store just isn’t enough. One is a framer, the other is a cashier, and that leaves one employee to help customers on the floor, complete BOPIS, go-backs, organize messy aisles, put up new displays and also be a backup cashier)! Ops managers will find a lot of the times you’ll be spending your entire shift on the register if someone calls in, allowing your ACTUAL work duties to pile up. While majority of customers are fine, be prepared for certain shoppers to come in and act as if you personally are responsible for company policy and they will take it out on you. But this is common in all retail. In terms of pay, Michael’s (hands down) has the worst pay for an operations manager. For such a busy job with zero downtime and a crazy amount of responsibility, don’t expect to be fairly compensated for the absurd amount of effort you’re required to put in every shift.
