Pluspunten

People are friendly, and the dress code is pretty relaxed. Free Monthly lunch with the boss. Celebrations and free food on special events/holidays, and usually cake for birthdays (although that varies per department). The HR department is really wonderful. Good job security, no one gets fired due to downsizing or to cut costs.

Minpunten

There's a lot to say. First, the pay is not very good unless you're a software developer or a department manager/director. You get a yearly raise that's supposed to be based on your performance, but your performance actually doesn't have much to do with it; it depends on how much the manager likes you (I know that sounds cynical, but it really is true). MotionPoint is generally not a good place to advance your career if you're in IT. Most of what you learn is proprietary or it uses outdated technology. Your career WILL stagnate at MotionPoint if you're in IT, so don't stay longer than 1-2 years. If you're a MotionPoint-employed Web Engineer and reading this, you need to get out! You're not growing and you're underpaid (and you know it's true). The company stopped growing a few years ago, so there are minimal growth opportunities. People do get "promoted", but that's only a title change. Based on my experience, promotions never come with a raise (internally, we call this a "Motion Promotion" as a joke). Some of the managers/directors are great at their job, but others lack the required experience and knowledge needed for their roles. I'm talking about Directors who make technology and development related decisions, without having technology and development experience. They'll disregard the advice of knowledgeable employees, and show obvious favoritism towards the employees that they are on very friendly terms with. Most newly hired people are referrals. MotionPoint has a very nice 2500 dollar referral bonus if you refer someone and they're hired. Sadly, this is another area where you see favoritism. The favoritism becomes very noticeable when you see the same person getting their referrals hired over and over again. It's well known among existing employees what's going on. There are many more things I can say, but I'll end with this: the parking situation is an absolute nightmare. Be prepared to have to park behind the building (there is no parking lot, it's just pavement), where someone will have to park behind you, and then you're trapped until you can find them and ask them to move their car. Also be prepared to be asked to move your car if you got in early and parked in the front, because a client is coming and they want a space available for them.

Thanks very much for your constructive feedback. In response, it may be helpful to reiterate that our goal at MotionPoint is to create a collaborative and innovative environment where we’re each evaluated both according to our individual accomplishments as well as our contributions to the success of the team. Your feedback on some of the proprietary tools we’ve developed over the years to do our work is well-taken. As you may have heard, we recently migrated to a leading packaged email solution and are in the process of doing the same with our CRM, instant messaging and other productivity tools. --Human Resources
