If you able to get close to some management level then you will easy to get promoted. - Almost every decision making power also control by Japanese staff, foreigner staff do not have any power. - Too focus on details, work hard but not work smart. Waste so much time to turning around but not work for the best results. - A place for retirement, everyday just turning around focus on same problem and keep look into details. - Even you are really capable on work but still wont get promoted easily. Company criteria to promoted a staff will be 1) Japanese staff or 2) Long service staff or 3) Staff who have good relationship with management. - Company more look into who can work longer instead of who can work better.
