Pay is not the highest but benefits are really good

* This company does pay very well, even for folks that maybe don't have the fancy degrees! * Management intentions are good and most employees are hard workers that just want to support our Veterans. * Staff is friendly and are generally good people. It's nice to be a part of a team that wants to support one another. * They offer Kaiser Medical which is awesome. * They are not top-heavy like so many non-profits. Most of the funding goes to the employees & staff that work directly with clients. * Staff has a lot of freedom and is pretty empowered to assist their clients. * They are passionate about helping and the Founder really holds a strong line making sure the VA doesn't bulldoze the programs with b.s. Federal bureaucracy. * Two of their offices are around the corner from Blue Bottle, downtown Oakland Farmers Market, Chinatown, and much more-so there's a nice little plus. * They offer lots of supportive benefits, maternity leave for Fathers, paid vacation time, etc.

* Their hiring habits are archaic and erratically handled at best. * You have to be a self-starter and self-motivator all in one. That's fine, but can become tiresome and wears out employees more quickly. * Their HR compliances are a joke. It's not that they intentionally do things that are questionable, it's just that they are sort of bumbling around. Or at least it seems. * They have little ability to keep fires from starting, though they are good at putting them out. I personally think there is a culture based on a "savior complex" that serves to lift individual employee morale, but this behavior does not support the organization or staff as a whole. Very short sighted. * Management is pretty dismal: inconsistent, under qualified, and seemingly incapable of self-growth and follow-through. * They have absolutely NO retirement or life insurance support of any kind. * They do not provide continued (or any) training for staff.
