Pluspunten
Management does a nice job of hiring well-educated, dedicated teachers and paraprofessionals. The classroom teams are generally tightly-knit and supportive of one another. The small setting and relaxed dress code can be a welcome change from the public school and corporate learning settings. Even if you are experienced, you will learn a lot about behavior management techniques that utilize positive reinforcement.
Minpunten
Pretty typical for this field (sadly) but they are not able to pay staff, especially paraprofessionals, a decent wage so there is a high burn-out rate. Currently turnover is very high. Management takes pride in bringing in the challenging students that other schools will not accept, and they are also trying to grow the school so that they can get enough funding to move into a nicer building. This sometimes results in students being brought in that are not well-suited to the school. Staff frequently encounter crisis situations. Expect to get hit, scratched, bit, groped, etc on pretty much a daily basis. Students being injured by other students occurred more frequently than I was comfortable with. No leadership roles with higher pay available to staff. No annual raises due to budget uncertainty.
