Hours are pretty flexible. There is some room for advancement. Working hands on with dogs is of course the best part

The pet hotel is getting extremely busy as people are traveling more. But the number of workers is not increasing. And they hardly put a limit to how many dogs they will take and keeping allowing an infinite amount of reservations without proper staffing. On top of the extra tasks it is hard to get everything done at night and still take proper care of the dogs. Management doesn’t care if dogs haven’t been walked or given water all day or have poop in their rooms as long as things like reports cards are done and windows are cleaned. They don’t care about the pets and you have to give up breaks and work through your lunch to get everything done. I get in to my closing shift at 2pm and dogs bowls water bowls are completely dry and every other dog has poop in their rooms. And of course report cards and dishes are prioritized over that. Managers never do walks of the hotel and leave mistakes for the next people to fix and take no responsibility for anything

The company pushes for more and more from the bottom level employees without better pay. I worked there before the restructuring and; not much can make me cry, but working here sure did, even back then. I can’t imagine how anxiety inducing it must be to work there now. Animal welfare is a complete non-concern. The only thing that’s pushed is sell, sell, sell. It’s borderline dystopian. Bad management seems to be a common issue, not only from my experience, but many others’ as well. I worked until I was an exhausted sweaty mess to make sure everything in pet care or, when I groomed, the salon, was cleaned to perfection as expected of me (and I reiterate: “me,” because these standards were not expected of my co-workers, just me) and overall felt very unseen. The only times I did feel “seen,” was when mistakes were made. Work was treated like boot camp. A co-worker that was subtley targeting/bullying me, and even started rumors accusing me of racist remarks(!!!), was promoted and anything I reported was downplayed because they were friends with the assistant manager. Working here was an overall traumatizing experience.
