Small company that truly understands the challenges of the modern professional balancing work and life. Sensitive and respects people for time off, even on short notice. Technology competency is broad, allowing employees to grow and expand their professional skills. We recognize the need to diversify into offering services geared towards the business. Leadership team understands what needs to be done to meet tactical objectives. When we need to come together and solve a problem, we tend to succeed. When Bob gets involved, things get done. During this current recession, we appear to be doing reasonable well. We seemed to have found our groove for sales and the types of clients to go after.

Minpunten

Being a small company, we have very little in the way of training. Our budgets are tight, so many things that one would take for granted, are not at PL. Creature comforts, a modern website, dressed-up office are lacking. We are not strategic enough, and are always fighting fires. Tend to have knee-jerk reactions, running from "one side of the ship to the other" whenever it seems the wind changes. The really skilled senior people are stretched way to thin and over-worked. These individuals carry the company and often making up for less skilled or senior resources. We have been bouncing within a range revenue wise and not sure that will change anytime soon.

There are some interesting client work, depending on the industry and function. The company has accomplished a lot of meaningful work and has various clients in the fortune 100. They hire nice people -- that does mean something. Heavy focus on tech implementation, if that's what you're interested in. Good work life balance (little to no travel, reasonable work hours, billable hour bonus) especially for consulting.

Minpunten

The work does not seem to come consistently, so many remain on the bench for longer than they should. If work comes up, there is an inclination to fit individuals into stretch roles -- understandable per business needs, but not ideal for morale. Upper management (CEO, COO) are not out of touch with anyone below Sr Director -- for a small company this disconnect and political divide is unnecessary but unfortunately not surprising. The company lacks overall concrete direction, and is instead stitched together by project opportunities that come up mostly by circumstance (someone knows someone...) -- no cohesive strategy is apparent. (The CEO was unable to answer a simple "5 year outlook" question on the spot -- All CEOs should know this answer immediately.) Not a "modern" place to work -- company approaches (from methodologies to office design) are from the early 2000s at best. Additionally benefits are quite subpar given the high expectations of companies in San Francisco.

Thank you for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. We appreciate your comment about the great work we have done and the great people we have. We agree with your comment about the sales not being as consistent as we would like. At the time you wrote this review, we only had 1 full time sales resource. Since then, we have brought on 2 new full time sales resources and move 2 others to focus fully on sales. That has enable us to have a much healthier sales pipeline, which we expect will bring more consistency to our projects. We are very excited to have closed 4 new clients in the past few weeks and are looking for more in the upcoming weeks. Your point on methodology is an interesting one, as we have been involved with many Agile projects and variations of Agile that work for our clients. We do not believe that there is a one size fits all solution, and we are a strong believe in adapting methodologies to fit in with what works best for our clients. As far as reaching out to connect with all of our employees - I think you are making light of the fact that we are spread out across 4 states and have multiple locations in California. Since many of our employees work at client sites, truly connecting with 100+ people is definitely a challenge. Over the past year since you wrote this review, we have put in place several new ways to reach everyone, including starting a culture committee, introducing career development leads, and making more frequent trips to our various offices and client locations. We also just had our Company Meeting last week where we presented our strategy and vision. In the past, we didn't do enough to make our strategy visible to everyone, so we are now very focused on providing that visibility. We presented our vision, strategy, goals and objectives for the coming year. We understand this is just a starting point, but we are very excited about our future and will continue to focus on reaching out to our employees more and sharing more about our vision, strategy and goals.
