-no set hours means time management can be challenging -base pay is very low -the expectations for writers is high compared to more casual sites (faster turnaround, quotas, etc.) I see a lot of former writers complaining on here. The truth is: SR kind of has a low bar. Management likes to give people a chance. Unfortunately, a lot of the writers don't last b/c they just can't develop the skills fast enough to make up for their lack of professional experience. As an editor, I often get treated like a secretary from brand new hires. Ego like that makes it hard to learn, and people who can't learn won't succeed. No online entertainment site is going to hire some fresh college grad, pay them $200 to write about Star Wars, and promote the heck out of it on social. That's a fantasy. SR will at least let you write about Star Wars, and it may get put on social -- and if it's a hit, the bonuses are pretty sweet. Is SR a bit exploitative? Definitely. But that's also the industry.
