Founders have made a very wise decision to remove themselves from executive power and control over daily operations; delegating their power to a very experienced and savvy President. This has been transformational for the company and quality of life for employees. Select has a good client portfolio of big brands and local businesses. Select is highly recognizable and great for networking locally. Process, management hierarchy, specialization, and thoughtful business development are all improving under the new President. Now is a great time to get in. Select is a cash business; they own their building and operate largely debt-free. You won’t be blindsided with layoffs like at Dealer or MWG. They aren’t beholden to investors or shareholders. The building is very beautiful. Not a single fluorescent light, fabric cubicle, or ceiling tile anywhere.

Although I cannot speak to the personal experiences highlighted in other reviews, I can more or less confirm a history of bad management, boy’s club mentality, high turnover, chaos, and control through fear. I will say that since the transfer of power away from the Founders, things have shifted dramatically and today Select IS an employer that I would recommend to friends. Outside of company veterans and high-output sales people; salaries are on the low side. HR is an afterthought; it can be difficult to get information about 401k and benefits. There is no employee handbook. Profit sharing and 401k vesting schedules are a bit greedy. The environment is high trust and high autonomy. You are largely responsible for identifying opportunity, executing your work, and showing your contribution. If you need close management or have trouble problem solving you will not find extraordinary success. This is a pro if you have the skills. Nobody will care if you take a long run at lunch and leave early if you are doing your job well.
