Pluspunten

Everyone in the store is very colourful, and everyone gets along very well. It's not comissioned, but if the month's sales goal is exceeded, everyone gets a bonus. Pay is usually above agerage (varies from when you were hired, but always above minimum wage) and raises are fairly generous, around 50 cents. Gratis is almost weekly. As long as you've worked enough hours or attended brand training, you're bound to get something. It's also awarded for things like mini sales compitions had within shifts. Management is very easy to talk to, and are very constructive and encouraging when providing critisims about performance--they always point out things you do well. While not a lot of time can be spent with new hires teaching product knowlage, senior employees have no problem answering questions or teaching about products. Most even have the initative to approach new hires with their favourite products and tell them a few selling points. When coming on a shift, the manager in charge will have a talk with you about goals for the day, new products, and will answer any questions. There is a lot of opportunity to advance in your department as well as in the compay, all information as such is very accesable to employees by either notices and flyers posted in the break room or just a breif visit to the office. It's very easy to get hours, especially if you can show management that you're a hard worker and have a passion for your job. The discount is fantastic at 40% on Sephora brand and 20% on everything else.

Minpunten

Some employees do form cliques, but it seemed to be more so the younger and more often than not seasonal employees. Product knowlage can be hard to pick up on for some employees, especially if they're only working part time. Seasonal employees are not permitted to attend brand trainings unless they're on the verge of being picked up as a permanant hire. Management can take some things very personally and get a little dramatic, like an employee quitting or having a grievance at an inconvenient time. Apperance policies change frequently and can go from being very strict to very accepting (i.e. from hair being required to be pulled back/up, limits on types/colours/size of jewelry permited to multi-coloured hair and facial piercings accepted). The "costume", as it's called (uniform) is very unflattering and somewhat uncomfortable, although you are allowed to have it tailored. The pants fit like maternity pants and the waist is well above the belly button. When the store gets hot, the costume does nothing to help and does not breathe well (it's polyester). Luckily, t-shirts are permited as long as they are from Sephora or a brand sold there.

manager created a weird environment -- coaching moments were sometimes extremely aggressive for a retail environment; strict on not applying makeup to clients unless they purchase a service. once made me move from a disabled client quickly because I was "spending too much time with them" and to further boost the store sales. felt extremely unethical.
