Not a huge corporation so growth is limited. People at the higher levels have worked/stayed here for a very long-time so it makes it somewhat difficult to work your way up if you are starting at the bottom.

Shout! Factory has a really strong identity and overall brand, and it's really fun working with all these oddball, cult titles. It's rare that any work on a film feels like "just another project." Everyone here is very friendly, and there isn't much in the way of pretense with employees here - which can be rare in the entertainment industry. Shout! is a small company, so everyone's work and efforts makes a real difference here, so even menial tasks feel pretty rewarding because you know and appreciate the effect said task has on a specific project, or the company overall. I can't recall working on something that I thought didn't have a point.

The pay is low, especially when compared to the rest of the industry, or even compared to similar jobs outside of entertainment (that said, the benefits are pretty good). Also, since we're a small company, the workload is big. Most people here are doing the work of 2 or 3 people, so things can get very hectic very quickly. Organization is something of an issue here; often times if you're working on a project, you're also fixing some aspect of how that project is stored/recorded/handled too, which can be frustrating. It's a very laisse faire attitude here, and while there are a lot of benefits to that, you're more often than not left to your own devices when it comes to.. pretty much everything. Obviously there is a lot of freedom and opportunity in that, but depending on your department or your superiors (plus the aforementioned organization issues), it can make for a really intense, stressful environment.
